AWS and OpenAI Forge $38 Billion Multi-Year Partnership to Power Advanced AI Workloads
November 3, 2025 — Today, AWS and OpenAI join forces in a long-term plan. AWS supplies its strong cloud tools. OpenAI runs smart AI tasks. The two teams share computing power to run heavy work right away. They plan to grow this use over seven years.
This $38 billion deal gives OpenAI access to many of AWS’s cloud tools. OpenAI uses hundreds of thousands of newer NVIDIA GPUs like the GB200 and GB300 series. They may add tens of millions of CPUs. Each unit works in Amazon EC2 UltraServers that join GPUs in a tight network. This close join helps keep delay low and work fast. The setup runs many AI tasks—from serving millions of ChatGPT users to training new AI models. It also allows OpenAI to adjust as new needs come. AWS keeps the system safe, low-cost, and steady.
The surge in smart AI has raised the need for strong computers. OpenAI wants to push general AI ahead and must have a safe, large cloud of machines. AWS runs massive groups of computers, with over 500,000 chips working together. This history gives OpenAI the strength to reach its high goals.
Sam Altman, OpenAI’s co-founder and CEO, said,
"Growing smart AI needs many strong computers. Our alliance with AWS builds a wide system of computers that will run the next phase and bring smart AI to many people."
Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, added,
"As OpenAI sets high aims, AWS cloud forms the base for their work. The wide range of ready computers gives clear proof that AWS stands out to meet OpenAI’s big tasks."
Earlier in 2025, OpenAI brought its open models into Amazon Bedrock. This move let many AWS clients gain from the models in areas such as media, health, and science. Groups like Bystreet, Comscore, Peloton, Thomson Reuters, Triomics, and Verana Health already use them for writing code, research, math problems, and more.
With this new deal, OpenAI starts to use AWS computer tools right away. They plan to use all resources by the end of 2026 and to add more in 2027 and later.
Amazon Web Services is a top cloud provider. It gives secure, scalable, and fast tools for businesses and developers. OpenAI leads in AI research. It works to build smart tools that help people.
